There seems to be a few coins that were minted in the same year, on same metal, but something small was changed, just to make it a little different. Take this 1916 2 ore from Sweden for example. One has a long 6 and the other a short 6. Or these 2 10 ore from Sweden. One with closed 6 and one with open 6. Or these 1 cents from Netherlands. One with large date and one with small date. Show your examples. Let's see what you have.

Fascinating, though I can't see the difference in the Netherlands coins. Perhaps it would be clearer, side by side. Are the relative rarities known?

Is this better... Check how last 6 lines up with T below. Quote: Are the relative rarities known? Yes, these are known. You can see them on Numista.

Thank you, triggersmob, that's obvious now.
I must try to remember to look at my specimens.

How little of a change are you looking for Trig?

Quote: How little of a change are you looking for Trig? Anything Keith, as long as it's a distinctly different coin, not an error.

nss-52 that's a nice example. Looks like a different 8 in the date.

@triggersmob, you should be able to find way more differences than just the date.

Very nice Keith. The "Five Cents" looks bigger on the lower coin too.

Quote: @triggersmob, you should be able to find way more differences than just the date. nss-52, I didn't study it too closely, but the eyes also stood out as different. Just had another look and the knot in the hat/bandana, the chin shape, the ear lobe, the nose philtrum, sideburns to name a few.

1926 British penny - portrait used 1911-26: 1926 British penny - Modified Head 1926-7: George V had his head modified in 1926 to counteract the effects of 'ghosting'. The revised portrait is in lower relief and the designer's initials have been made smaller and moved to the right of the truncation (and are virtually indistinct unless the coin is in Mint State).

Looks as if Keith beat me to the 1913 nickels, but could add mine for posterity... My picts were badly done this morning but didn't have time to take better ones until now. (I have a few more examples of this theme in my collection I could add ) Both are in AU from what I could see, the type two on the right has a weak strike or from worn dies making it look mushy.
