Searching a role of pennies, I found this 1993 penny that was deformed. It has a large bulge to the left of Lincoln's head and a smaller one to the right of his head. The center and left-ish side of Lincolns head is sunken. On the obverse, the letters of the word "IN" appear sunken in the middle (the edges are raised). The same with the letters in the word "ONE" on the reverse. There is also a smaller bulge under the Memorial.

The edge of the coin near the bulges appears crimped compared to normal coins.

So, is this a mint or post-mint error coin?

Oh, I've looked at coins that have been burned and none have the effects on the lettering (sunken middle with raised edges) that is on this penny.

to the CCF I think you got it. Looks like half was heated just enough to puddle but not enough to destroy the coin. This coin is zinc with a thin layer of copper. The zinc would melt before the copper, so it puddled up inside the copper plate, then solidified.

I'm on board with exposure to intense heat--post-strike damage.

Yep, heat will crinkle the copper plating just like yours shows.
