Brightened up the images a bit and cropped them.

I agree with Dearborn, doesn't matter which, it's damage either way.

I don't think it's a Dryer Coin. A Dryer Coin wouldn't remove metal, it just moves it around. Looks like the obverse rim was sanded down. Along with the eagles breast and edge.
