Hello all,

I doubt there's any added premium for a cull but always curious to think about how coins like this one got to Rome. Certainly, it wasn't in someone's collection...hardly a show piece...

You can tell that it a 1917 type 1 by the roundness of the gown next to her right foot. Now if the gown was flatter indicating a 1916, even a cull would be worth some bucks.

P01 - the interesting thing is, in the states people pay premiums for straight graded P01 coins.

i agree with your curiosity regarding how it got to your area. was it like this before it went to there, if not, how did it circulate that much in italy to cause that kind of wear

I'm not sure i'd consider it a cull

@pan, there is some bullion trade here... I've bought a lot of Washington quarters that I feel -given the condition of the coins and the volume - were bullion trade...

I've only found about 20 barber and SLQs and only two (which I previously posted) warranted some numismatic value and likely were bought by collectors for their collections. Four others were in the album collections I bought last week...they have weak dates but were purposely put in an album - the album ended in the late 60s so I suspect someone put the album together on a trip(s) to the u.s. from largely low grade coins purchased or pocket change...but....who knows.

I imagine these culls traveled over in pockets and were lost, dropped, left in bags, or given to a relative as a souvenir. I doubt a contemporary (ie 1970-present) Italian collector went to the u.s. and brought this coin back as a numismatic token of their trip.
