Agree a token of some kind. If it's been dug up out of the ground and looks black like this, then it's probably made of brass. If it was found with coins from the late 1800s, then it too probably dates from the late 1800s.
With no indication of manufacturer or issuer, tracking down any information about it is going to be tricky. Such tokens are poorly studied and their cataloguing is very patchy. I suspect it may have been used in a game of chance, either sold with a deck of cards or used in very early gambling machines known as
trade stimulators.
