Is there a secret to buying gold from Costco? I've seen the stories and read the comments about Costco gold since the launch back in August yet I've never seen any offered on it's website or on any of my in person visits to the warehouse. I live in Southern California. Maybe it's a regional thing?

Not sure about gold, but buying in the store you'll need a membership card, $60 annually. Buying off the website as a non-member adds a 5% surcharge. I'm not registered on the website but believe that gold is a 'members-only' exclusive so not shown to all.

Thanks for the link Zurie. I did a search for "gold bar pamp" on the Costco website and got nothing back. When I searched "gold bar," all I got were two jewelry items. Oh well. Thanks again.

They usually sell out in minutes when they get stock. In Canada they also sell Canadian maples in gold and silver.

If that Wells Fargo account is accurate, that ~2% markup is the key. Looks like most ebay sellers (at least the reputable ones) are at 4-5% markup. ebay crooks sell at a discount to spot and it is amazing that people fall for it.

You can buy gold at Costco, but it comes as four 32oz tubs shrink wrapped. You can also buy silver, paper towels, and feta cheese in quarter pallet quantities.

I second the recommendation for the rotisserie chicken. Their flank steak is also reasonably priced, and is awesome marinated and grilled.

We are no longer members, but our in-laws are. My wife will either go shopping with her mom or her mom will get my wife a gift card, which you can use in the store without a membership.

COSTCO is wise to this. To use a gift card they make you take some added steps. It is not just shop like a member but with a gift card. You have to check in first and get some sort of one time guest pass and you are generally expected to use up the gift card with the visit.

In the meantime gold keeps rising, stirring the bubble-like frenzy..

Right now there isn't a frenzy for holding fiat currency despite the high interest rates. People may be hedging PM's to save for downpayments on car and home loans due to the high cost of borrowing.

I find it very hard to believe that even a tiny fraction of the general population would even understand what you just said, let alone do it.

I don't think the price of precious metals is skyrocketing, I think the value of the dollar is plummeting. If gold rose against most major fiat currencies simultaneously, then I would say that gold is being used as an inflation hedge at a large scale.

There's all kinds of uncertainty, which is (IMO) contributing to higher silver & gold prices.... election year, potential retaliatory strikes from Iran, the devaluation/dilution of the USD, Fed rate cuts (if any this year), etc.
