*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***

Hello, it's been a while since I last posted. I have 2 coins and 2 questions please. First, is the 1963 penny considered a red penny? And second, on the 1979 d penny, is the mint mark considered a restrike since they were done by hand then? I appreciate all of your input. Thanks in advance.

The 1963 cent has red toning, and the 1979 D Cent has a broken post/filled in mint mark. Very common.

Dee123,
The 63 does look red and not red/brown.
The mint mark you are referring to would be called an RPM=repunched mint mark not restrike. Need better close up in focus pic of the date and mint mark.

a pretty nice 1963 'red' cent and the 1979 image is, well terrible, and it is hard to see if you have an RPM or not.
However, please, only one coin per topic - saves time and avoids confusion (and reduces the amount I have to type when asking for only one coin on each topic..)

Your 63 does look red but pretty beat up - depending what it may look like in-hand it may go R/B (Red/Brown).

"Red/Brown (RB) is the strike character given to copper coins that have been graded as having between 10% to 90% red mint luster remaining."
