Not like the sneaky 1920 D but in my opinion the 1918 D is a sublime little devil. When I went looking for one in mid grade original it took longer than I thought. Grade away folks and enjoy.

After studying SLQ's grading Mr Frog, I concur with your VF-20. But would not be surprised if NGC went with 25 also.

I'll go a bit higher at VF-35. The reverse looks like a solid VF-35 match to PCGS photograde. The obverse is close to XF-40

NGC thought the coin was XF45. I'm at VF35, VF20? thats pretty stingy on this one.

A little quick on the reveal but I was going to suggest VF35.

GC put a little sexy on it. Oh brother coin does not resemble this pic very well, bidding was capped at VF20 prices and I had a hunch it might be more battleship gray than the pic. Tougher since 2022 to get a bargin at GC lots of aggressive bidders, the good old days pre 2020 seem over. Image courtesy of "Greatcollections".

XF45? Sounds like a labeling error.
