Hello community of coinage. I recently purchased a few Mint Sets. In the 2012 set, one quarter as you can see is a quarter of turn sideways in the case. Aren't these cases made to not open and those coins I would think, are snapped in pretty firmly. Just wondering if this is normal? Do ya'll think it was opened? Has anyone seen this before? Thank you, this forum rocks.

Easily corrected. pop the lens open with a thin blade knife. wear cotton or plastic gloves. Gently pop the quarter out of the clear plastic inner housing (do this over a soft surface). The inner plastic only covers the obverse of the coin, not the reverse. Place the coin back into the proper position.

it's not terribly uncommon for coins to be rotated in original mint (plastic case) packaging.

If you lightly shake the case, can you hear any rattling in it? the quarter may be loose in it and just rotated..

I would keep it sealed as is....sometimes you can introduce environmental damage by opening
the case to the unknown surrounding air.
Then again I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to uncirculated/mint coins.

The case is not air tight, so opening it will not be an issue for that. However, it does protect from dust and larger things.

Yes pretty normal as IJN1944 mentioned but an error can happen when there are wrong coins such as two of one coin and missing another has happened or missing a coin entirely. In 2022 there was yet another attempt to change the packaging to help with keeping coins in place but that caused some issues https://www.coinnews.net/2022/08/01...culated-set/

Around that time I remember they were starting to use robots to put the coins in such as this link from 2014, so depending what year that started it could be related
