Quote: I went to the Vet yesterday to get meds for my dog Hardy, I tried to pay in cash, but insisted in a card. Ummm....what if you don't own a card of any type? Why does everyone assume that everyone uses plastic? It's the demise of society when you can't pay cash! I use cash for 90+% if my purchases.

I know of a couple of stores that say they don't accept cash, though surely that's illegal? Bur there's nothing like progress. Several nearby restaurants don't even have menus anymore - you have to scan the QR code on the corner of the table.

Forgot to add - They said that they don't keep cash on hand and couldn't make change... (a sign of things to come?) When we go to a completely cashless economy, what is going to happen to the jobs of the Armored truck drivers?

I hope I'm long dead when we are forced to go to "Multi-Pass" (Fifth Element) of a chip embedded into my arm counting my value in life years (In Time - Justin Timberlake movie) means of payment. I just hope that my Red Barchetta is safely housed on my Farm in the countryside on the other side of the one lane bridge by then.

Quote: I know of a couple of stores that say they don't accept cash, though surely that's illegal? Nope. Cash being legal tender is for debt. You do not have debt when you go shopping unless you try to walk about the door without paying. Quote: When we go to a completely cashless economy, what is going to happen to the jobs of the Armored truck drivers? The same thing that happened to gas-lamp lighters, street poop cleaners, etc. They get new jobs. Quote: I hope that NEVER happens, it would be a HUGE loss to individual freedom! It will happen, but likely long after we are dead (or at least no longer able to go out and do stuff). The youngsters hate cash. Kids cringe when you try to give them cash with their birthday cards. They want gift cards... Steam, X-box, Apple, or whatever will work online.

Quote: Well lets hope so.... My thinking is that gen-X, boomers, and older millennials still generate enough demand for cash. As we age out or otherwise die, the demand for cash will drop. Once it gets below some threshold, the government can just say "no more cash." There will be little resistance to stop it; let alone encourage & support a free market alternative (Liberty dollars, gold backs, and other private tokens). I know I am not helping the situation, since my use of cash has approached zero.

My son works at the local trash recycling center. They still hand sort. He finds a lot of coins and silver. Automated system scheduled to be in use in 2026.

I guess there are no legal ramifications if someone picks money out of the garbage... but for some reason there could be legal ramifications if you pick a coin from the pavement?
