1828 Capped Bust Half

I guess the discussion has ended, so I would like to thank everyone for their input. Given me a lot to go on. When I get it graded I will post the results.

"CBH" just means "Capped Bust Half".

Some people have asked about where the wear is. I see one clear area of wear on the front bust and drapery, and that prevents a MS designation. There is very minor wear on Star 1 as well as on Liberty's chin. I also see slight friction on the upper curls above the eye and the ear; without seeing the luster in-hand, this friction may or may not be wear. This coin is a later die state, so the rest of the details on the stars and the curls are due to strike weakness and not wear. Finally, I do not see any obvious wear on the reverse. In my opinion, this coin is textbook AU-58.

In short, the front drapery has slight wear. I forget who said this, and I'm paraphrasing, but it's good to keep in mind that "an AU-58 is basically a slightly circulated MS-63".

If you're looking for a value, then as long as seeing it in person does not reveal any other surface issues I'd say you're looking at around $1,000 (slabbed).

i'd much rather have a nice AU58 coin vs a low MS coin any day and this one would probably bean if sent to CAC if it was slabbed as 58
