Came upon this in a roll of pennies. Assume it's one of those stamped pennies that are like collector specific? Any idea what GK could stand for? Marlies

It is called a counter stamp. I have no idea what it stands for. John1

Yes, counterstamp. Who knows--GK could mean 'good kid', someone's initials, 'Golden Knights', or other.

Indeed a coumterstamp, and a maverick type at that, as we don't know what that GK means... Aside note, the 1941 cent is known with three possible DDOs, perhaps yours is one of them?

==mrwhatisit== Even if it had any DDO the counterstamp would void it of any value right? Marlies

Yes, all coumterstamped coins are considered post mint damage, so normally should negate any type of mint error, but I suspect there is a market of collectors out there (myself included) that would be interested in counterstamped coins with mint errors. So yes, some value could still remain to certain collectors out there.

==Keith67== "Golf ball marker for Gene Kunes" That is possible as well or Gene Kelly's personal penny since it is old enough to exist in his lifetime! ;-) If this couldn't get more interesting!
