I've bought from sellers on this forum, and others. Commercially, I've purchased quite a few coins from coast to coast. I've been very pleased with the results. I began to get the littleton approval coins, but cancelled cause I don't want to be sending things back all the time and I don't want to miss sending coins back at anytime.

Quote:other than ebay or other auctions or flea markets or shows who do you buy your coins from? You ruled out shows, so I will say my local dealer.

You say "other than ebay, flea markets, or shows" I have bought from the local newspaper several times !....wheaties.....Silver Certificates, I.H.C.'s, etc. Coin Shops work well, esp. if you can develop a re'pore with the owner. But, mostly from coin auctions, (the kind where I'm standing right there and have looked at the coin) or estate sales........ coin shows don't happen that often around here, but if they did, I'd like to hit those too. I just like to go to where I can see and touch the coin I'm interested in purchasing. There is no shortage of opportunities to buy coins......just money !....

Local dealers and coin club auctions, mostly. I buy very few coins online, from ebay or anywhere else.

I too say WELCOME TO THE FORUM. I only purchase coins from Coin Shows, flea markets, garage/yard/estate sales. Used to try on line dealers but usually just not what I'm looking for and prices are always excessive, sometimes not sent what you purchased. The main problem on line is even if the same coin is the same price, you still must throw in postage, handling, insurances, return policies, restocking fees and probably some of the sellers slabbing fees. And my experiences with on line dealers is what some have had good luck with, others have had poor purchases. I don't like surprices. I really like the ability to see what I'm getting.

Just be carefull if purchasing coins on the internet knowing you can not see the actual coin, the actual dealer, nor if you would even receive the coin. In many, many instances it appears that most people have good luck doing purchases on the internet and even ebay. If not, those would not exist for long. Just hope your not one of the opposite ones.

I mainly buy coins for gifts. So, I use the Mint a lot. Since my coin store recently went out of business, I have purchased from C and C Coins, and was really happy with the coins.

Most of the coins I buy now I get at work. I get a great look at what comes in and the layaway policy is great. That and I know what he paid for them. I also buy at shows and have another trusted local dealer that we deal with at our shop. He's the "competition" as it were but he and my boss are actually pretty good friends.
I rarely buy on line any more but in the past have been pleased with the quality I got from JJTeaparty. They're getting pricey these days from what I see but the quality was always there. As vermontensium pointed out Alaska Coin Exchange is good. I haven't bought from them but a friend has. He always consults me and they seem to be fair and honest. As for Cheapslabs he's bought from my boss. I've met him and he's a nice guy. Picks them up in bulk (no garbage either) slabs then sells. Really is a good way to get a cheap slab.
Good dealers are out there. Just a matter of finding them.

I recently got some proof/mint sets from moderncoinmart.com to kill holes in my collection. They were pretty hassle free. Other than that I go to local coin shops and my banks! I'm a little afraid of ebay. Trying to up my post count so I can join the buy/sell forums here, they seem like a great resource.
