Hi Everyone,
I have questions about 2 different Morgan
Silver Dollar coins. The first Morgan Silver
Dollar is from 1887 and was made into a keychain.
Does anyone know how much this is worth and if
it's common for these coins to be made into
keychains? The second Morgan silver dollar
is from 1882. I posted two pictures of it because
it appears that there was an error when they
stamped the date on the coin. The 1 appears
largest followed by the two 8's which are a
little smaller followed by the 2 which is noticeably
smaller than all the other digits. The picture
doesn't really do the coin justice but the error
is easy see in person. Does anyone know how much
this coin is worth and if this is a common error?
Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forum!

1887 is a common date for Morgans. Common date silver coins that have been damaged or altered typically are worth little over "melt" value (the value of the silver they contain) to coin collectors: around $10 for a Morgan dollar, maybe as much as $12. I'd say it is worth more as a cool key-chain than as a coin.

I am not any kind of expert on Morgan varieties. The 1882 might be a valuable variety, but I suspect that the effect you are seeing is common. Hopefully one of our Morgan experts will shed some light.

You should check the back of both coins for the mint mark. If it has one, it will be below the wreath. It won't make much difference for the 1887, but if the 1882 has a CC mint mark, it will add a lot to its value.
