I've been bit by the Capped Bust quarter bug.

What are the best reference books available?

Without a doubt. Early United States Quarters 1796-1838 by Steve Tompkins. Hands down, nothing compares

Until recently the only references were the Browning book and the Jules Reiver Variety Identification Manual. Browning was a little difficult to us but decent, the Reivers was good but almost unavailable. Recently a new book by Stephen Tompkins has come out that is quite good and is currently replacing Browning. At the EAC convention this weekend I learned of yet another book on the early quarters is in the works but I can't say when it will be out. I saw the Tompkins book this past weekend but I can't find it on the internet. So you may have problems locating it. Found it from the author $89 plus postage. Info can be found at http://www.coinlink.com/Books/early...ve-tompkins/

Thanks to all.

I ordered the Browning on Amazon and the Steven Tompkins from the coinlink link provided.

I'll need to sell some of the stuff I'm not as interested in to afford more of these little gems!
