Hi Susan and Bobby Hope your having a great day !! I was wondering if you would think about a Morgan dollar area on the forum where just Morgans could be posted and discussed? I hope this suggestion is not a sign of addiction !! Rick

I don't think it will get the desired result. A dedicated forum would tend to segregate Morgan discussion, which would be a disservice to those who have not yet been enthralled by their beauty. If there is any coin which can be called "mainstream," it's the Morgan dollar.

Dave your probly right !! I was just thinking that with all of the Morgan collectors we have on the forum and the huge amount of knowledge present ,, that a centralised area would be beneficial.

Maybe we're both right. It's certainly worth discussion.

If you ask my opinion as one without any Morgans (yet), I'd say it would be "not so good" for the overall forum. The more the separate fields, the less the chance of getting others' attention to new (or dark) stuff.

Hi RenaL
That is precisely the reason for this is to gather opinions !!
Keep in mind that Morgans are perhaps the most studied and most extensively documented coins in the whole of the US series,, the amount of information that can be posted regarding these coins is immense !! haveing tidbits of information scattered all over the forum in several different locals, error variety, main coin forum, coin grading practice etc,, make this a very hard coin to follow the information around on and correlate it all together into a practical organised form of information that can be used by anyone especially the novice collector of these coins like myself,, a central area of information would be much easier !!
Thanks Rick

You got that right. I have 600Mb of Morgan pics on my HD, and those are just the coins I own/owned.

That is a good point.
Getting organised is sure better for everyone. I just say that having separate for each coin may lead to new collectors not even noticing them.

Forums are a great way for people to interact and learn. A lot of friendly chatter occurs and friendships are made, this has to be as valuable as the information contained in the thread. After a while though, trying to find that bit of information, you heard on some thread, becomes hard to find, even with the search function. Example: put in the word "Morgan" into the search engine and you will find over 250 threads and growing. So you either have to dig for the information or ask about the information again, which creates another thread. This may not be a bad thing as we always have new members on the forum who will find the information new and interesting, and other new members who will add to that information because it is a fresh topic. It would be cool for all the facts to be distilled into a facts thread, but that would require an extreme effort of editing, worthy of a book. And as mentioned already, books have already been published on the subject. Metalman, yes this is a sign of addiction.

Rick, as mentioned in another thread, this would be great for those of us who are Morgan-compulsive, but I like the mixing of coin types and series with each other in the various subject areas we already have (eBay, Coin Grading Practice, Main Coin Forum, etc). I think that if we were to segregate Morgans into their own discussion section, those of us who are Morgan lovers wouldn't be inclined to look at an adjacent discussion on another type coin whereas those who haven't had much exposure to Morgans might not be inclined to go to a specialized section. Further, the other special interest groups might start lobbying for their own section, e.g., Bust Half Dollars, Flying Eagle cents (YES!), Three-Cent Pieces, St. Gaudens gold, Confederate $20 Coins, Rhode Island Colonials, and whatever. I think we're already broken down in more diverse subject areas than any other forum and I suspect Bobby, Susan, and you delightfully wonderful Moderators already have enough irons in the fire (or else you're forum-obsessive and have a genetic imperative for even more sections to monitor [they have pills for this now] ). I don't mean to be negative here, just practical. Fred

Ok No Response from Bobby or Susan ?
I assume that would be a no .
Fred you make some good points,,As do the others who expressed opinions,, Although these points are debateable as fact !! The opinions expressed are suffient to drop the subject.

Sorry. Worked over 20 hours this week in Maryland and my kids made me sick, so I spent the rest of the time in bed. I have to say that I feel that it would be better to leave Morgan dollar posts in the Main Coin Forum. These coins are very popular and can cause people to want to expand into this series. We get a fair amount of members who got interested in collecting recently with the modern issues and the Morgan is a good example of the beauty of the classic coinage.

I agree and understand everyone's reservations and opionions, however I can understand morgangs getting their own forum. When discussing morgans ther is so much more knowledge that can be gained and even more to study. with the vams and other it presents it self as one of the most complicated coins to research in american history at least that my 1 and 1/2 cents worth.
