This 1914-d Lincoln Cent has had someone gouging around the mint mark. Please offer your opinion has to whether it's genuine and if so what impact the gouging has on its grading and value. Thanks.

That tooling makes me very suspicious that the mint mark is genuine. I would never buy this coin.

Altered ! A laughable attempt at best . Never buy a 14 D unless it is certified or you have the expertise to know what a genuine one looks like .

out of the 5 possible obv dies the only one thats close is obv die #3, however the MM is too close to the 9. add to that the tooling is just screaming fake-er-oo

The coin has been very corroded and cleaned. The MM is very questionable, I think this is a fake.

Betting on Altered. Would stay away from that one Ya know? After saying field was used to pile metal to form the D, I'm just wondering if the scrape marks lowered the field around it? Either way - definitely altered

Quote: Metal was pulled from the surrounding area and piled up to look like a "D". I agree.

Someone moved enough bronze to make a D. If it was certified as genuine I wouldn't pay more than $50 for it. Move along.
