Saw this and first thing I thought is "is this real?" Its listed as a planchett error with no weight given. There doesn't appear to be any reading from the images shown but no pics of the edge.

Maybe the reverse was sanded down or was used to make a Magicians coin?

Right - impossible to go through a minting press and not be struck both sides with that weak skinny rim.

Reverse has been sanded down with something like a bench grinder. You can see faint traces of the original design towards the outermost edges.

I watch estate auctions and am finding that several don't verify coins they list. It makes me leery about any high value coins from those sellers. They would pass on fakes without realizing it.

Sent the seller a message.

With the rim still there, it has been machined out on a lathe, then they would engrave a message.

I guess the seller agreed that this was an abraded coin. It was removed from the auction.
