I know (think) the Spiel Marke was a German Gaming/ Counting/ Currency Token. I would like to know more about it. If anyone can ID a date and provide more facts on this one.

The blend of American coin icons and German Language is fascinating.

@vtc, that is a pretty cool game token you have. Looks like it was made in Germany for the US market. My go-to website for these pieces is tokencatalog.com and here is a link to the correct page:

There is quite a bit of info on this one, including rarity, attributions, and die numbers.

yes, it is very cool looking.
The obverse and reverse design is almost identical to the 20 Dollars Liberty Head - Double Eagle. (with the exception to the surrounding text that was changed.)

Prior to World War I, Germany - and specifically the token-making businesses in Nuremberg - had acquired a virtual global monopoly on play money and gaming tokens - they made them cheaper and better than anybody else.

There's one of these tokens slabbed by PCGS; it's in better condition but has the same large die crack on the reverse: https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin...aming/763745

There's a variety of this token which names Strasburger & Nuhn, a New York importing business in the mid-1800s. Picture stolen from this ended ebay auction:

Presumably they placed the orders for these play money tokens to be made in Germany and shipped to America.

"Compos." seems to be short for "Compositions" (a word which appears in full on other jetons and tokens of the period), which I'm guessing is the name of the manufacturer?

After the war, when doing business with Germany became politically awkward causing foreign orders to collapse, the token-makers switched to manufacturing notgeld tokens.

Wow. Thank you all of the information. When I took a picture with a coin recognition app it tried to tell me it was a $20 golden eagle. I wish!!!
