Hi folks- I have 9 coins dated 1893-1918 with roughly the same design: crowned 2 headed spread wing eagle, center shield*, with a sword in left foot and a chalice (?) in right foot. A bit like what you'd find on similar vintage Finnish coins, or various German States coins. Besides a bead around the rim, this is the only markings on that side.

The other side gives denomination with a variety of surrounds- oak wreath, scrolls, etc, the year, but no writings.

The attached example (sorry for the poor resolution) is ~19 mm and ~copper. 10 & 20 demonination coins are slightly bigger, ~nickel with a reeded edge.

I'm stumped!

Thanks
Patrick

*I say roughly because there are two shield designs.

If you go here: http://(131231) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed /countries/Austria.php and scroll down slightly, he has pictures of the 10 and 20 Heller that should match your other denominations. I like these coins; the design is sort of similar to Germany. When they are high in grade they really look cool

Welcome to CCF, by the way

There are several European countries that used a double-headed eagle; the Holy Roman/Austrian and Russian empires, and some of the coins issued for their territories (such as Russian Finland and Poland respectively) are the most commonly encountered, but there are a couple of others, such as Schwarzburg-Sondershausen. But the "two shield designs" you describe give these ones away as Austrian.
