Yes, me again. I'm ready to call it quits. This one has an '1853' date wherein there is a circular gouge at middle of '5'. I had no luck in enlarging a sensible photo for view. Also, 10 o'clock on the obverse, you can see a bad gouge across 'premier' wherein I see a darkish brown planchet exposed. Edge lettering is correct.

Does it look like the real deal or a fake?

Looks good to my eyes

It has the typical worn via circulation appearance as it has the nicks and dings one would expect from a circulated coin. That gouge on the word premier looks like a planchet flaw as you indicated.

wow, I just wasn't sure. I've never seen a silver coin with a deep flaking gouge like that. And, the dark color middle of the gouge made me skeptical. I have several others of this type and none had such damage. I've seen die breaks with lines stamped into the coin, just not any with this kind of deep gouge before. That's why I posted to get your thoughts.

Cleaned indeed. Most of the coins I find in my price range have already been cleaned and polished beyond belief. I wish people wouldn't do that.
