I'll say MS-66, unsure if FS.

rims have quite a few scratches. pretty good mark at K4 obv. minor marks on jacket. scratch across left pillar. now the elephant in the room..the steps. I've seen hits like this on the steps designated as FS and some not receive the designation. personally I would not buy it as FS even if it graded at that. they are so inconsistent with this. its such a common coin

due to some discoloration in the fields and some of the devices along with those rims and marks i'll give it a 63. due to the strike here I'm not ruling out proof and comparing it to other 41S proofs

The rims were what concerned me, too. When I purchased it, I was too focused on the devices. It wasn't until the next day that I noticed those rim hits. I was further confused by the PCGS catalog, because all the MS65-66 coins shown have visible rim dings. I didn't have any aspirations for full steps, I think that ding and the die wear would make FS very unlikely.

The coin is the FS-501 variety, Large-S. I plan to keep it to study for a while, and hopefully identify the specific die. But some day it might be graded, liquidated, or both. If I picked a lemon instead of a cherry, there is a short return period on the coin.

I appreciate the help, guys! I will take photos of my own when the coin arrives, but for now it seems like a keeper. I personally found the late die state and toning to be appealing, but I know that's subjective.
