I would welcome any thoughts on grade and whether this is details. My main concern are the hits near the rim on both the obverse and reverse. Thx, Adam

due to the weakness of WE and clasp on the brances and the sharpness of some of the other devices I'm calling weaker strike. technically I would call it F15 but i'll net it to F12 as I think its better than a VG coin. I don't think the obv ding would detail it but the reverse ...probably

Thanks for the feedback PZ, CF, EV and IGE.

Well, we are in need of a tie breaker, 2 for and 2 against details.

For the crowd here, will TPGs really detail a well circulated low grade coin with an ancient ding that is about .25mm wide and 1.5mm long (excluding the two follow on dots on the rim) and on a relatively large coin? If this were on a 3C silver, I could see details. I thought the TPGs were a little more lenient on circulation hits and scratches, to a point, on low grade coins.

I know some have mentioned, facetiously or not, Greysheet values influencing grading decisions. GS F12 is at $390 vs $247 for VG8. So might TPGs detail it because they think that ding would be sufficient to drop the market value from say F to VG, so they just details it?

Adam keep in mind that in some cases TPG's (at least PCGS that I'm aware of) assign or adjust a grade based on what they feel the coin would sell for on the open market so they will net the grade down rather than assign a details designation. thats why I'm on the fence on this one. they would take into consideration size, location and number of issues.
