Hi,
I checked the forum but wasn't able to find anything on metal detectors specifically for the beach. I live on the coast in Southern California, and see people out there using metal detectors, but have never seen anyone use one in the surf.

Can anyone tell me if buying one that supports "splashing" would be worth the money? I would love to get out there and start finding things, and any advantage over the other people out there would be great. Additionally, are there any specifically made for beaches? Or any care that should be taken due to the high salt-level at the beach?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Hi Sasssyblonde

Welcome to the forum !!

Most detectors can be used around water without any problem,,Most of the new Detectors (not all) are water proof up a to a certian point, but to submerge the detector a specialty detector would be required.

Just ask the sales person for which ever Detector Brand you decide on to show you the models that can handle the wet stuff !!

I use a whites myself and the coil is water proof but not the electronics,, I know garretts make models that are usable coils submerged for nugget shooting !! Good luck with whatever machine you chose to buy!!

I know a few folks who do the beaches in So.cal,, they do well at times very well !!

I dont think any of them play in the surf, they use the tides, and areas where the people sit and play on the beach to their advantage.

Unless your just searching the shallow water I recomend you get a waterproof detector. They cost a bit more but one "drop" would destroy a regular detector.(Only the coil is waterproof) Nearly every company makes a waterproof detector.

Tesoro makes the Sand shark and Tiger shark.
