I just got a coin today for $5.
It is a 1728 6 pence with the Obverse in AU condition and the Reverse (the side with the head) in VF condition. It is nice even wear and I am wondering what it should be worth.

I have no idea what it should be worth but $5 sounds pretty darn good! Are you able to post pictures?

Hi Napoleon31ft

there is a site I visit someimes with older british coins. To grade british coins the side with the head is really important. SO I will say at a vf grade the site values at around $350.00 US.

you can check out the site if you would like. Sounds like $5 is actually REALLY fantastic. :)

be reminded though that British grading and US grading are different. That may mean that a US vf grade is more of a F in british standards (still worth around $100 US)

The 1728 Sixpence is George II, this coin is listed in Spink #3706 variety which has Roses only in the angles on the Reverse, valued at F=£40, VF=£125 and EF=£400, these prices are in GBP, the other variety Spink #3707 which has Roses and Plumes in the Angles and is valued at F=£25 VF=£100 and EF=£325 so it sounds like you have the bargain of the month coin in your possession for $5. WOW WOW WOW

That's a great purchase. The oldest British coin I have is a large cartwheel penny from 1770's, but it's in terrible shape - AG3 to maybe even poor. I got it for $1 though, and it's nice to have!
