Moniker Pillar of the Community Sweden 1812 Posts	Posted 06/11/2024 09:46 am I see sometimes pcgs-slabbed coins with the grade PF on coins that to my knowledge was not produced as proofs. This is coins from late 1800s. So my question is why do they call them PF and not PL on some occations. found this distinction Proof: A frosted relief over a brilliant field. Reverse proof: Brilliant, reflective or mirror-like details on a frosted or slightly matte field. Specimen: A brilliant image relief against a matte or lined background. asking for a friend...... Sap Moderator Australia 16805 Posts	Posted 06/11/2024 6:40 pm The TPGs are usually pretty knowledgeable about when proof coins were actually made for US coins, so don't make this mistake there. For non-US coins, they are less knowledgeable, and can make mistakes. I know that the TPGs have in the past graded some Australian predecimal coins as "Proof" when no such proof coins actually exist, for example. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis Report this Post to the Staff
