1943S 5c Jefferson DDO-011 Stage B
(Thank you CCF member Frank Bauman for the discovery)
I hope all you "nickel hounds" like it.
http://www.varietyvista.com/04a%20J...3SDDO011.htmThis was a tough nut to crack. I saw some doubling in the sellers images, but it was kind of subtle. VV has 13
DDO varieties for this year and mint, so I wasn't exactly excited about my prospects attributing it.
I just did them in order and started ruling them out by MM location or strength of the doubling. When I came to 011, the MM location and some of the doubling looked good but there was a die crack on the shoulder for 011 that wasn't on my coin. And my coin has a nice reverse die crack on the dome headed SSE to just above the E of "CELLO" that wasn't in the VV images.
After ruling all the others out, I came back to 011 and started scrutinizing the VV images looking for something that would tie the two together.
I found a small die gouge over the upper right side of the "E" (WE) that was in the images and on my coin. With that, I knew I had my variety #.
(Thanks again Frank Baumanfor submitting your original coin.)
Hope the images are clear enough and thanks for taking a peek.
(The last three images are markers for this stage: die crack in the hair above the forehead, die gouge over the E, and the MM)
