I noticed that there are many different varieties of cents from 2006 on http://coppercoins.com/diesearch.php. I found a penny with a die break in the hair. Could this be one of the varieties and if so, which one?

No. Die cracks are not die varieties. They are normal wear and tear that happens to a large number of dies, thus are very common in change. The die varieties involve doubling on the coins - that's what you should be concentrating your effort on. You'll have to get your mind off the die cracks and start looking for doubling.
