This is the first one I have ever encountered up here in Canada in my 20 plus years of dealing and wondering if there is an easy way to tell if it is real or not, short of submitting it for grading, which would cost hundreds of dollars and the estate does not want to expend that if its not real, and simply wants to sell it off.

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

The edges of the paper are quite sharp -- which is not what you'd expect for a note this old in this condition. That's a red flag. Also the signature looks the same color as the printing -- another red flag. It can be hard to give accurate opinions without seeing the note in hand, tho. If there is a reputable coin dealer near you, they might be able to offer a better judgement.

You might also try posting on a forum where there is more expertise, like PaperMoneyForum.com.

interesting observations Greg - So you are saying a fake here then?

I don't like to make judgement calls just from scans. But by comparing the graded note you can see how much different the signature looks. I'm leaning towards not genuine.
