Quote: Thanks Makecents for the recommendations on where to send the coin for attribution verification/designation. From what I read, after the attribution is established, I then send the coin and paper work to a third party for slabbing. And you recommend ANACS for doing this. Not PCGS? Correct? Also, although the error variety may be established, who then grades the coin before slabbing... ANACS? A1agrl, I apologize for not seeing your post before this most recent one. The reason I suggested ANACS, is because they will honor all varieties from the folks I suggested you get an attribution from. PCGS and NGC only honor certain varieties and you won't get it put on the label of the slab from them, and yes, ANACS does the grading too. PCGS is the best as far as getting more worth on the backside out of your coin, so keep that in mind for other situations.

Quote: Since making my last post I have continued to research more on the hot lips dime, and noticed that the variety discussed is on the 1964 D. But the dime I have is not from the Denver mint. Is there a hot lips variety on the 1964 dime from other mints? Or is mine the first? You first need to send it to one or more of the attributers that I gave you to see if it will be considered a variety to begin with and then move forward if it has been.

Thanks Makecents for clarifying the attribution process. I will follow your guidance and keep all posted as to the outcome. Whether it is or isn't a hot lips dime, it's still a nice coin to find.

Ok, I think that Makecents has given you some good information that you should follow up on. These sites will normally study coins like this for new attributions and post them on their sites. One person her eon CCF is one of them - goes by the name of 'Tanman' message him to see what your next step can be. At the moment he is not taking in new coins as he is setting up his site after taking it over.

This is an update on my quest to identify my possible Hot Lips dime. I first reached out to Wexler at doubledie.com. But they are not accepting any submissions while the site is being modified. I then sent photos and a request to variatyvista.com. I soon received a courteous response that the reviewer does not recognize any of the Hot Lips dimes as a double die/variety .... "Hot Lips dimes are the result of clashed dies, not hub doubling. This makes them die errors not die varieties." Although John Wexler thinks the 64 and 64-D are doubled dies. The Varietyvista.com reviewer does not.
I now plan on submitting the coin to coppercoins.com and/or wait until the Wexler doubledie.com sit is back up and accepting submissions.

Im not sure, but once I was looking information on how to submit an coin for attribution on coppercoin.com then I read they aren't taking any coin from the public. So make sure you can send your coin to coppercoin.com Also not sure about this, but I thought cooper.com was only for cents. My apologies for this image, because it is a screenshot, but I tried to download it and did not let me do it, so I have to take a screenshot.

Thanks Gigi2110... you are correct regarding coppercoin.com I will not be submitting to them. And Makecents, I did read the link you provided, thankyou So I wasn't taken aback by the comments I received. But I do hope when Wexler is back on line I might get a different response.
