I know we hear about dimes with doubled ears, but has anyone seen a 1964 dime with doubled lips like this one?

It is, isn't it. At first I thought Mechanical Doubling. But the edges are too soft and distinctly mounded like you see in true doubled lettering.

Really? you think it could be a new discovery? Attached is a fuller image of the front of the coin. I could see the doubling when holding it in the light, thinking the lips looked thick. Granted you really need a microscope to see the possible error.

Not yet, I'm still a bit overwhelmed to find a coin in such nice condition, and possibly a hot lips DD. If this proves to be what I hope it to be, Should I get it graded. Or first verify it is a Hub Doubling. And who should I send it to to confirm this? Thanks for all the comments and help.

As recommended, I have gone to the CONECA site and read the information regarding Hot Lip Dimes and also about CONECA's attribution services. My question is, should I have the coin's attributes certified as being a DDO error (existing or new) before I send the coin off for grading. And is CONECA the best source for verifying the coin? Thanks

Most folks typically send it to one of the three following for attribution: VV http://varietyvista.com/ cc https://coppercoins.com/ Wexler https://doubleddie.com/ I would check with each and see who is currently taking submissions. If you want the slabbing company to put the variety on the slab, you must send the paperwork from the attributer with the coin. The only worthwhile slabbing company that will do this particular variety, if it is a variety, will be ANACS.

Thanks Makecents for the recommendations on where to send the coin for attribution verification/designation. From what I read, after the attribution is established, I then send the coin and paper work to a third party for slabbing. And you recommend ANACS for doing this. Not PCGS? Correct? Also, although the error variety may be established, who then grades the coin before slabbing... ANACS?

Since making my last post I have continued to research more on the hot lips dime, and noticed that the variety discussed is on the 1964 D. But the dime I have is not from the Denver mint. Is there a hot lips variety on the 1964 dime from other mints? Or is mine the first?
