2018 P LSC DDO new discovery or something else? I found this one DDO in some bu rolls that had 2018 P WDDO 002's ( LSC ) in them. The die marks on the obv and rev coin match the wddo 002 that I found but the doubling is stronger on 20 with a crease in the mid part of the 2. Very odd. Keep in mind that the coins I have are of a different die stage than what is on Doubleddie.com. I would like to start with pix of the stronger doubling coin. The coin in question.( Note the die scratch coming of the Y of LIBERTY ). That is one of the die marks that the coin share. I can add the comparison pix of the WDDO 002 later so as not to confuse the two. Thanks, Frank B. Edited by Frank Baumann 07/06/2024 11:20 am

Hi, thank you. I hope the pix. are good enough to see the difference in the two coins especially the 20? What could have caused this? Is it some kind of Machine Doubling, recut error, or a planchet error on the 1st coin ? I found only one but found 100's of the 2nd coin the ( WDDO 002 ). Let me know what you think. I presented this anomaly because I think this is a good and challenging topic for the day. Since I found this coin I have been wondering what caused this but am not 100% sure. All options are appreciated and will help me narrow it down. Thanks, Frank B.

Hi, Thanks for that link. I think you are right. I know it had to be something because I only found one with the extra thickness and 100's with the normal doubling, I knew you would have an answer. Very rare and interesting subject. Thanks again, Frank B.

When you have a minor doubled die like this, it can sometimes be hidden by MD. If you did not have the other coins with the same exact markers, I would have probably just said MD. Nice work on this one.

Hi, Thank you. I have learned a lot from you this weekend. When doubled die hunting I have always keep the error coins I knew were not doubled dies but were odd like die dents etc. I am glad I did because now I am understanding how and why they occur. I put a few up for sale and have had some interest shown in them. Plus I am able to label them correctly in the titles. That helps tremendously. Makecents you are a cornucopia of knowledge. Thank you, Frank B.

Frank, I have just done my best to pass on what has been passed on to me by others much sharper than me. Some take it, some don't. I'm glad I have been of some help to you.
