These were obtained as change in a cafe in Winnipeg. 1874,1881,1911 dimes. 1906,1950 quarters. One other time at the same cafe I received a 1950 crisp one dollar bill. Nice cafe. What are the differences in the 1881 dime and the 1906 Quarter. I do not have a book on Canadian coins. They mention that there are more than two varieties in each coin. What are they?

Wow...that's really amazing to get those in change, especially the 19th C. coins.

hello zakota,

what was your bill at the cafe?
these coins are not the best grade, but you would get about $ 10 for them on ebay, perhaps more...Silver value a;one is around 3-4 Dollars....
NOW, if your 1906 quarter would be the small crown.....mmmmm (VG6 would be about 700 dollars)
lucky guy go get some more...

Five times I have been to that cafe while visiting Winnipeg. Three times I have received old change. The bill was not worth $10 in old change. I visit Winnipeg whenever there is something good happening up there.

I really struggle trying to understand how any retail outlet would knowingly pass those coins out as change.I would have thought they would have stood out like a sore thumb. And all of them were passed back out within the same transaction?

I'll have to look for the name. I don't know the name of the streets. Only my way around. You know I am a tourist when in Winnipeg, so I can't know the names of anything)) Some people just do not pay attention to change. They look at the size of feel and they never look at it. But I do agree on the dimes, it seems that they would realize the difference in size and weight.

No need to dig deeper Zakota..was it a Starbucks or Tim Hortons, Timothy's, Second Cup or another big coffee chain?

Hey, I'm still wondering where that cafe is. Maybe it's close to a coin dealer or something.
