All the letters except UST look extra wide to me. I've tried to check the markers for the 1982 large date copper cent DDO on variety vista but haven't been able to match them all. Am I wasting my time looking?

I wonder if there was a tiny bit of grease in the die? That might be what's making it look thicker.

Please post a close-in, end-on photo of the rim. Thanks.

I agree, the devices are not that tall but are wide, so they could have only slightly filled with grease.

Thanks again to all who helped. I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what ijn1944 meant by end-on photo. The close-up part I understand. Please forgive my ignorance. I keep saying I'm new to this, but I have been doing it for almost 6 months- which I guess is still "infancy" in this hobby.
