Hello coin community .Thx for having a look at this 2023 American penny for me. I am wondering if this is a error original to the minting(DENVER MINT) or is this just a damaged coin?

Lol i.m replying to my own post because I forgot to introduce myself. I'm here in Lethbridge Alberta Canada and I'm not a collector but I was on line and came across this Site, read some interesting threads so thought I would chance a post with this penny I found. Now back to reading others posts:)

To CCF! Just gunk on the coin. PMD. Should come off in a pure acetone soak.
Errers and Varietys.

Please tell us what you are seeing as a possible error. I am seeing a substance/gunk on the coin if that is what you are referring to. John1

i don't really know if it's an error but it's not sitting on the surface of the coin its embedded in it. As one person replied "it's damage" I was wondering if this type of damage is at Minting or afterward. Thx:)

@Poorfolk I stated that it: Quote: Looks like damage to me The lighting in your first picture obscures most detail. On your second picture, the combination of lighting and a little blurry and out of focus, appears to show some sort of foreign substance on the surface of the coin. Either way, it still appears to be damage. Maybe better, in-focus pictures with less glare and a better lighting set up would help us to see what you are seeing with the coin in hand. Otherwise, I still say it appears to be damage, and to answer your question, the type of damage, such as a foreign substance on the coin as most believe, would be Post Mint Damage ( PMD) ... "Post" meaning "After" minting... and not an error. Edited to add:

to CCF it appears that there may be glue of other substance on the coin. A good acetone soak may soften it up and be removed easily.

If I could post an "embarrassed" emoji I would . I cleaned the coin and it looks good as new(unfortunately)

you can post the 'shy' emoji You can click on the emoji or just type it out like this - [8 )], which becomes as for the substance on the coin - that happens all the time here - no worries.. when posted
