I figured I would post this and see what everyone's thoughts were. It seemed light weight wise for an Indian head. Maybe a fake that that was gold plated for some kind of jewelry? Thanks.

Looks like it was plated. It looks real to me. Maybe struck on a Rolled Thin Planchet, causing the weight to be low.

1880s version of a colorized coin? Unfortunately, that strips it of numismatic value.

Agree, appears plated and has little value in this state.

coin is genuine but some dumb dumb thought it would be cool to plate an AU IHC destroying the numismatic value (just another common cull IHC worth ~$1.50)

Yep .... looks to be genuine, it does. Likely, it was housed in a bezel as a jewelry item' this, to commemorate 1886 as a significant year for someone.

For some years, I collected coins like this one, coins that had been repurposed, so to speak. Some were jewelry items. Others were converted into knives, box coins, belt buckles, tie clasps, box coins ( Trade dollars), etc. It made for quite a display.
