Hi all I was going through one of the lots from an auction I won recently which had a bag of world coins. While sorting it out I came across a coin that looks like a 1752 Hungarian Ducat but I am not really sure so any help identifying it would be very much appreciated.

Bryan, it doesn't look like gold. If genuine, it should weigh ~ 3.5 g. Unfortunately Numista does not list the diameter, but it should be around 21 mm.

Thank you John.

Hondo, thank you for the info. That's what concerned me was that it didn't look like gold. I weighed and measured it and it weighs 2.9g and it is 20.86mm. So I am guessing that it isn't genuine but I have no clue what it could be.

@bry, in addition to the color and weight being off, I can see sprue marks between TU and DOMINE and between DOMINE and SPES. I think that you have a cast reproduction here.

This is a Reader's Digest replica, used to promote a book on European history. I know this, because my Grandma (who was a big RD fan) gave me two of them; one of them was marked COPY, the other was not.

Yeah, it had something on the reverse (not sure what) so I gave it an acetone bath and when I rinsed it off that is how it looked.

I believe these were distributed by Reader's Digest glued/attached to cards. One of mine has a similar discoloration spot due to the glue removing/altering the plating.
