*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***

I'm not sure if this is the forum for it, but I got this 1957 D penny a couple of days ago. Damage reveals an outer ring all the way around. The ring will attach to a magnet. I found something similar that is called a trick penny, but the outer ring was a silver color.
The "S" in States is missing or rubbed out.
Does anyone have an idea on this penny?

to the CCF, noquarter13! It looks like your cent is in a bezel.

It's odd that someone would go through the trouble of creating what appears to have been a seamless bezel, but more odd is... why?

It was probably a souvenir trinket (maybe on a keychain) or an inexpensive piece of jewelry.

Jasper62, that is exactly it! I thought that maybe it was special bc the "S" was missing, but it is PMD after all.
Thank you, everyone for your replies and help. Also, thanks a ton for the warm welcome!
