Found this coin recently, it has been ruined by someone drilling a hole in it, to use it as a medal or charm. I guess it is worhtless now. Can anyone tell me what it would have been worth. It is an 1869 Napoleon lll 2 franc.

That coin has seen better days my friend. May be thats why the dude drilled a hole into it. Odd looking hole tho, must of been done many many moons ago with some type of mechanical drill.

I went surfing and the only place I could one was on ebay. That coin looks to be in superb condition vs your specimen and has a current bid of $15.50.

Here is auction page fer ya.

Sadly, holed coins are not worth much. Probably bullion value of the silver weight. But it's a way of collecting very cheap old coins, because of the holes. I must have at least 30 coins that have had holes put into them. I think they made a nice necklace years ago in simplier times. Sometimes the coins are in fine condition (besides the hole) at a small fraction of the cost of a normal coin.

I have a hole that's worth negative 200%, or negative $50 (depending on your point of view).

How do I reckon that? At a coin show in 2001, a dealer was selling two effectively identical specimens of this coin, one holed, one not:
This-Is-Sacrilege!
Georgia (Russian protectorate) 2 abazi 1831

The unholed one was AU$75, the holed one AU$25.

Thanks for your replies. Doesn't matter anymore, I gave the coin way, today, to a friend that's going to Europe. Told him it was a good luck charm. He was rapped. At least it made someone happy. I told him it had Napoleon on it and that he tried to conqueur Europe and now my friend can do the same. (or at least try to conqueur half it's population, if you get my meaning).

I think you told him that it was a good luck charm for attracting half of its population (yes I got your meaning) lol

In order to judge grading , or to look at the picture of the coin and get a quick idea of the price I use the old official auctions of the CGB
( Compagnie General de Bourse )
The coin you posted in VF35 went for 50 dollar in the year 2000
