I purchased from E-Bay some 2009's, one box from the Denver Mint also one box from the Philly Mint. I have opened the boxes and checked out 2-rolls from each box, found the following: the coins from the Philly Mint came in wrappers from the "Security Armored Car Service" every coin in the 2-rolls were banged up very much, heavy bag marks, scratches, spotted and rim dings abound. the Denver Minted coins were in the "N.F.String &Son, Inc"wrappers from Harrisburg, PA. these coins were also terrible, heavy bag marks, multiple gouges and scratches, and dings alike. I feel the Mint is sending these coins out to vendors to roll and in doing so the ride to the vendors and the handling while there are destroying the coins, I have not seen damage like this ever, in "New coin rolls in B U condition". The care and handling these coins are receiving is totally un-acceptable and especially for this "special anniversary event" I expected at least the comparable handling of previous years to say the least. I do not think I am the only one to see these results, from my other collector friends. I feel that the "quality " of the coins are being compromised to produce the quantity for the year, while this also brings about another point, where are the coins? I also received the sets from the Mint, in the special wrappers, ordered on Feb 12th,@12:16, received on the 16th of April and was type dated on the box "9:45am-02-27-09. my point, I know by the stamped date these coins were already packaged and yet I received them 6+ weeks later. I feel the mint has kept the coins from us all and used the terms like" the banks are full of coinage now" as an excuse to with hold the coins from the general population on purpose. this combined with the quality issues is IMHO, an all time low for the mint, on the level of quality and the poor distribution to us all, except a select few who actually did manage to receive more boxes than you nor I would believe. I hope other's receive some better coins than the 1st 4-rolls I checked, thought I would share the very sought after coins of the year" Bad news"......

I got a box of 2009-D cents yesterday from my bank and went through two rolls and they are covered with water spots, they also have a milky hue around the inside rim on the Obv. The reverse is a lot better quality then the obverse. John1

Well this is discouraging to say the least. I have a few rolls that I plan on not opening. The coins on either end look OK. I just hope the special Lincoln set comes with decent coins.

Are they still making the special Lincoln set? Last I heard they were pulled from the coming list.

Are they still spendable? If so that is all the mint cares. They are striking cons for commerce, not for collectors.

It's a conspiracy! With everybody cashing in their "jar of change" the mint has to do something to increase demand. So the mint is delaying release of the new cents and damaging the ones they put out there to drive us all into a frenzy so we buy up more and more of them and higher prices!
So far its working!!
I'm also wondering about that special Lincoln set. I looked for info about it on usmint website and couldn't find anything.

I totally agree, the Mint is making coins for circulation, not collectors, at least the non proof coins. I don't mean the coins are not legible, they are just banged up, coin rolling/counting machine marks are bad, just not happy with the product. I wonder if there is anyone who did or will open the U S Mints specially wrapped cents, and if so How do they look, bottom line, I wish the coin making process would again take quality into consideration, and shake up the quality control dept, After all this is the United States Of America, IMHO, The greatest coins produced in the world, at least up there with the best........
