So the 1971 S has to reach a MS68 to really bring in value? This one is right out of the envelope but wonder what it can be worth grading?

From what I see, an MS-66 would break even on value when getting graded, MS-67 and up would be worth it. It is difficult to know how it will grade without seeing it in hand.

1971 and 1972 are tough years for Ikes, often with weak strikes and poor handling. This is reflected in those values by grade.

For now, your best option for value is keeping it in the OGP.

Just worth repeating: grading is not the right liquidation approach for most coins worth less than $100-150. For nice coins like yours that have collector value and silver value, you can make considerably more profit by selling them raw on ebay, on this forum, or other venues (probably not your LCS).

That idea finally took root for me when I realized that you could buy an uncirculated 1954-S nickel DDR for only $10 more than the grading fees (not including shipping and insurance), but sell it for $35-45 raw on ebay.

Not worth grading. Save your money and sell it the way it is, if you want to sell it.
