So this is an educational post pointing out why new collectors should not use Facebook to learn.

Here is the coin....

Now the only place it scratched is right above the date. People were saying it's an error because it didn't affect the top of the zero, or that WMD can't happen in one spot like that.

Here is my explanation which was one of the first comments, but people are still saying it's an error.

It's a scratch from a wrapping machine finger. The finger was riding right in the incused groove that makes the border for the design.
The only place it does scratch is above the date where there is no border. You can clearly see the scratch runs directly into the groove on both sides. It doesn't affect the date because it is also incused.

There is zero doubt in my mind that I nailed it. But here is the latest comment....

Momma says stupid is as stupid does.

Looks like the wrapping machine might have also clipped the head of the lower left effigy mound. Obviously it wouldn't damage the date like a typical quarter because the numbers are incuse instead of raised.

How does Reddit stack up with Facebook as a 'trusted' numismatic information resource?

Evidently they are graduates of the youtube school of error identification.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I use Facebook, X, Youtube, Tictoc, Discord and lots of other social media platforms for lots of different things, but I only use Coin Community for my numismatic questions. I see far too many 'experts' that have answers based on seeing or reading about something one time, with no effort to understand what part of the minting process could have caused an anomaly on a coin. The opinions and observations given on the CCF are usually based on YEARS of experience from many reliable sources.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

Reddit r/coins surprised me. Some real collectors there with none of the common pocket change being called rare and valuable that one would expect from social media
