  Livonia under Sweden, billon solidus, 1645. I think that was the first 17th century coin in my collection. These solidi have been extensively imitated at Suceava, though AFAIK we've discussed this specific coin before and decided it was probably an original Riga issue. |

Apparently the dates for the eye mintmark are 12 May to 10 November 1645; here's a source specifically for the shillings. So yeah, that's a definite datable coin. Of course, as mentioned, both my coin and Spence's (and tdziemia's, for that matter) clearly qualify for the year, so the progress wouldn't have been in doubt anyway. |
