My wife and I order our groceries online, the store does the shopping, and I go pick them up. Lately I have been including a dated Buffalo nickle with the tip I give the person that loads all the groceries into my vehicle. Today I found out that the "loaders" fight over who will get to load my groceries. Really? You order your groceries online? You don't walk the aisles checking out sales, letting your impulses rule, chatting with employees, enjoying the whole experience?

I'm old and my feet hurt. I'm at that stage in my life when the sales don't matter that much. In fact our broker keeps telling us we have to spend MORE.

My wife has her impulses online. I keep telling her we don't need more (insert item).

That's funny - good way to get preferred service - LOL! You mean you don't like running into rude people, people blocking isles so you can't get through, hearing screaming and crying kids, waiting in long lines, and getting sick from inconsiderate people not covering their mouths when they cough? Gee, I would so miss that experience

I live in western Pennsylvania where Giant Eagle (grocery store) rules. They offer online shopping. I take advantage of that. It has been LIFE CHANGING. I actually hat going to the grocery store, but I like eating.

I know people that have not been in a store since COVID. More power to them. Personally, I don't want some pimply faced teenagers picking out fatty meat and soft, mealy fruits and vegetables for me. Plus, other than my time and effort, it's free. To stay on topic, I think it's cool that you give Buffalo nickels as part of the tip. You say they fight over who gets to load you stuff now, but did they know what they were at the beginning or did you have to inform them?

We have a good relationship with the store, if anything is not up to par, we just call them and they refund the money. Adults do the shopping, teenagers bring it out to the car.
I said - here is a special part of your tip. I had to explain it to them.

Quote: Today I found out that the "loaders" fight over who will get to load my groceries. Outstanding! Quote: Really? You order your groceries online? We order all the "boxed goods" from Walmart. You can see deals and sales in the app. Wife does a pickup once a week on the way home from work. We go get all our produce, meats, etc. from Aldi or Publix (when they have BOGO offers). Quote: But this is about tipping with date Buffalo nickels.

I do all my own shopping I refuse to pay extra for that connivence (so far)
But I only go on Saturday Morning for major shopping, and then as soon as the store opens in the morning to avoid all the 'mid afternoon' crowds. I do however pay extra for my Sam's club membership so I can enter the store 1 hour before it opens to the general public.. (no mile long check-out lines)

yep, sure does.. The only huge obstacles there are at that early time are the shelf stockers and their endless piles of empty boxes.

Quote: I do all my own shopping I refuse to pay extra for that convenience (so far) At our store there is no extra charge for them to do the shopping and check out. I just have to come pick them up.
