The 1922 High Relief Peace dollar demanded extreme striking pressure — more than standard presses could handle, leading to rapid die failure and an unsustainable production process. The U.S. Mint shifted to lower relief for business-strike 1922 Peace dollars, and these high-relief examples were melted down. Just three are known, and this example is the finest.
