It's not the first time I've seen this small line on the upper left edge, but the first time that I've seen a whole stack have this.

Can anyone explain how this happened? And whether or not this is an error?

I would suggest that this is a cutting error, and the green line is probably a guideline to correctly align the sheet in the cutter. Looks like this batch of sheets was misaligned just a hair higher than it should have been.

I doubt, though, that it is a "major" error.

I work in a print shop. WpgLwr is absolutely right. Those marks are called crop marks and are used to line up stacks for cutting.
