Art for a Dollar

By: Dahlia Rideout

Critically acclaimed tattoo artist, Scott Campbell, recently showed his work at the O.H.W.O.W. gallery in Miami, FL. The highlight of the evening was a series of laser-cut etchings, each on a stack of $1 bills. The collection is entitled "Make It Rain" and shows a sampling of the artist's dark and beautiful undertones.

Scott Campbell was born in rural Louisiana and began his career illustrating before mastering the art of tattoo. In 2004, he opened Saved Tattoo in Brooklyn where he perfected his signature style.

Isn't it illegal to deface currency to that extent? Certainly looks like it is.

I'm not sure, but it says it would be illegal if it couldn't be used or identified as a dollar.

I also wonder about the legal ramifications of this artwork. One would hope that law enforcement has more important things to do than jail someone for something like this. I suppose it should only be an issue if someone tried to get these dollars replaced by a bank.

Illegal or not, that is some fine art. Definitely worth more than the paper its printed on.

Very radical and cool. Someone with an appriciation for money and art will like it enough to put on the wall.
