I purchased a bulk bag of Indian Head and Flying Eagle cents. While looking at each one I noticed the word "ONE" above CENT was missing on the reverse of this one. I have looked at it under a USB microscope and loop. I looked for any evidence of the word ONE, swirl marks, gouges or any signs of it being removed. I weighed it along with 4 other 1863 Flying Eagles. All came out between 4.57 and 4.58 grams with the coin in question being 4.58g, all 4 coins were also comparable in grade.

What are your thoughts? Over greased die on the reverse? Thanks again for the input.

I don't think this is an Flying Eagle cent...
It looks more like a Grease Filled Die event from what I see and based off your photos...

Lol, I am so tired right now after going through all these. Yes, my mistake on the title. I'll change it to Indian Head, thanks for the heads up.

I forgot how to edit the title. If that is even possible on my end. Maybe if an administrator can just change it to Indian Head cent instead of flying eagle. I would appreciate it greatly.

Most unusual. Shame about the cleaning and damage.

It could very well be - with coins anything can happen. Care to pinpoint any observations that make you feel that way?

Is that some counterstamp markings on the obv?
If so, that may account for the missing ONE on the rev.

The "punch", or whatever was used to produce the incuse marks on the obv, makes it "bulge" out on the reverse. Circulation can take care of the letters at that point.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
