Going through a sack of wheaties I came across this 1954 S with a raised something by the mint mark. Maybe die chip? I would love to hear from the experts.

I'm surprised no one has named this one as it is the very famous "SJ" or "San Jose" mintmark / die chip.

However, what most folks don't know is this is also Stage J of 1954-S RPM-002. See it here:

Not like this one! This one has been famous since the first books on "oddities" were published in the early 60's. Plus it's not just a coin with an interesting Die Chip, but also with a late die state RPM.

Man, the mint put that die through the ringer. It goes to stage "L"!!
(And appropriately, the "J" by the date shows up in Stage J on VV.)
