Hello everyone,
Found this coin today in my collection and it looks interesting to say the least. Just wishing it were an American / British coin so that I could rake in the money $$$.

So, someone clearly had a little too much grappa to drink at work that day and misspelled the king's name and put UMBURTO instead of UMBERTO and quickly restruck it to cover up his mistake.

I haven't been able to find anything about this variety or any other one like it in Italian coins. Any help with identifying the exact variety and any past auction listing if they exist would be great

Thanks for looking :)

I don't think it was a 'U' it looks like it took a double hit.

What is other's opinion whether it was a U under E. To me, there may be a corroboration to this theory in that the bottom of the E looks curved.

That's exactly my thinking, that little curved bit under the E can't be from a double strike

Hello everyone,
You've all made some good points ( and I am open to being proved wrong) but I just can't imagine re-engraved dies creating that little curve at the bottom.

Does anybody know where I might be able to send this to have my theory confirmed / denied? I've looked around and it seems that only Ken Potter was doing this and he has now stopped accepting submissions.

Anyone else that does this kind of thing for world coins?

If there's a U underneath, I would expect to see the right hand vertical and there isn't one.

It might be an E over a broken E (an E which lost its top horizontal.)

It would be worth looking at other specimens; there must be some.
